Since 1315 there has been a wine tavern in the former "Kornmesserhaus" close to the wine market.

In 1715 Max List, one of the former owners got the license to serve beer. He established the beer tavern "Zur alten Hauptwache".

From 1760 to 1775 a man named Dionysius Haertl became the owner of the tavern.

To honor his hospitality, satisfied guests changed the name of the tavern from "Zur alten Hauptwache" into "Zum DONISL" (a short form for Dionysius).

For more than 200 years DONISL is one of the traditional restaurant in Munich.

It has achieved a worldwide reputation. DONISL is a very wellknown place where people meet in the center of the city.

Bavarian specialities and refreshing Munich beer are served in a delightful atmosphere.

The gallery with the glass roof offers a beautiful view of the famous Frauenkirche. For the entertainment of our guests, there is live bavarian music, starting at 6 p.m. every evening.
